Part collector, part archivist, part archeologist, and part researcher, Kathleen delights in the randomly found; she studies and researches things, arranges and organizes them, then displays and photographs, visually exploring their past and provenance.

Currently living in Tucson, Arizona, Kathleen was born in New York City; she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, University of Arizona, and C.W. Post College, Long Island University, earning both a Bachelor’s and Masters in Fine Arts.

After a career in book design and illustration, Kathleen taught art for twelve years; she now devotes her time to being the studio and putting together all the collections of things she has amassed over the years.
Kathleen Koopman’s work is focused on the assemblage of boxes, frames, books and objects, using found objects, man-made and natural, rust, maps, found fibers, photographs and book papers. Her process is to create a narrative with memories and dreams intertwined. She also has been exploring the many metaphors associated with vintage fibers, boats and birds, creating dreamlike constructions and installations.
